SHARON JO (LANOS) JOHNSON

Sharon Jo (Lanos) Johnson was born on October 10th 1957 in Forest City, Arkansas. Her parents O.C. and Ernie Mae Lanos later relocated to Rochester, New York and grew their family with the birth of six children: Valerie, Janet, Efron, Mary Ann, Barbara Ann, and Rita Lanos. Ironically, in 1963, the young family moved next door to Sharon’s future husband.

On September 4th 1976, Sharon and John Johnson (high school sweethearts) were united in marriage, ultimately celebrating more than 46 years together. To this union six children were born, John Jr., Valerie Danielle, Wesley Durrell, Schuyler Shelby, Aleja Ciera and Jayonna Janay.

In the summer of 1978, when she heard the testimony of her sister-in-law, Sharon Jo willingly surrendered herself to the master’s call receiving the Holy Ghost, as did her mother and sisters the night before. Sharon Jo was then baptized in Jesus’ Name at Emmanuel Temple Church under the pastorate of Bishop Joseph W. Lacey. Later her husband, John, and her father would do the same.

In 1987, John and Sharon followed the path of their sisters Sharon and Carla Johnson relocating to Columbus Ohio. There, they forged a new life in service to the Lord at Living Faith Apostolic Church, under the pastorate of then Bishop A. Edgar Posey, and ultimately at the New Covenant Believers’ Church, under the pastorate of Bishop Howard Tillman.

Sharon Jo lived a life of service to her family and to hundreds more, particularly through her outstanding culinary skills in the kitchen. Professionally, she was a Caterer, and as the Manager she led the service team for New Covenant Believers’ Church, its childcare program and school, for over 22 years. It was a ministry that fed not only the body, but the soul.

She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, caregiver, and a dear friend to many. Sharon helped mentor many young women by her example of a true virtuous women (Proverbs 31). Sharon’s commitment and compassion touched the lives of many.

Unexpectedly, yet triumphantly, Sharon Jo departed this life into the arms of Jesus on Tuesday, June 13th 2023. She said “I’ve never been to heaven, but I want to see Jesus!” Indeed, In the presence of the Lord is fullness of joy…and she is healed evermore. Amen.

Sharon is predeceased in death by (biological father) Walter Harris, her Father O.C. Lanos; grandparents Verlon (Elizabeth) Shelby, and J.C. (Willie Mae) Lanos; sister Tamar Harris; sister-in-law Carla Johnson and her beloved dog Bentley. She leaves to cherish her memory, her husband of 46 yrs. John Johnson Sr.; children John Jr., Valerie (Armand) Tatum of Cincinnati OH, Wesley, Schuyler, Aleja and Jayonna all of Columbus, OH.; mother Ernie Mae Lanos of Rochester NY, siblings Valerie (Alphonso) Crawford, Janet McNair of Houston, TX, Efron (Toni) Lanos, Mary Ann (Steve) Miller, Barbara Ann (Phillip) Forte, Rita (Carey) Smith, all of Rochester NY. Michelle Harris, Crystal Harris-Darnell, Paul Harris, Moreland Harris, Steve Harris and Walter Harris all of Toledo, OH; sister-in-law Sharon (Darrell) Francis; grandchildren Myesha, Imani and John Johnson lll, Jonaya Young, Arielle Tatum, Ayana Johnson, Wesley Isaiah Johnson; great grandchildren Amorah Young, Kendrick Muse, a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, Aunts, Uncles other relatives, friends, New Covenant Believers’ Church. She will be truly missed by all who know her.
