Sandra Joyce Smith-Hairston, gained her wings on October 7th, 2021, peacefully while at home with her family.

Sandra was born August 12,1957 in Roanoke, Virginia to Charles and Jean Smith, who both preceded her in death.

She attended Columbus Public Schools and later received training at Southern Ohio College.

Sandra was blessed with two children. In 2001, she married Eddie Lee Hairston and happily welcomed his children into her life with open arms. They remained married until his death in 2020.

Sandy, as she was called, lived her life how she as she seen fit, never conforming to what others thought was right or wrong, and she taught her children, grandchildren and greatgrandchildren the same. Although she was small in stature, she was feisty and full of love and full of lessons that she shared with everyone, always offering advice, praise, support and reprimands when called for.

She was proud to be from Southfield and was an active member of The Southfield Reunion since 2000.

Sandy never met a stranger. Once you met her, you were known as a sister, brother, daughter, son, niece, nephew or grandbaby. You were family and belonged to her.

On the day she passed, she waited at heaven’s gate for her oldest granddaughter Sierra Smith to arrive shortly after. She gave her a hug, took her hand and they entered eternity forever.

Sandra is preceded in death by her parents Charles and Jean Smith, Husband Eddie Hairston and daughter Elegance Hairston; brothers Tyrone Smith and Christopher Lockett.  She is survived by her brothers Donald (Daphne) and Alfred Smith; Sister-in- law Anita Lockett, children Dionne, Leoditus (Trina) , Darnell Brewer, Troy Patterson, Tracy Hairston and adopted daughters Zannita Howell, Hope McCane, Nancy Willis and Brandy Anderson; God Daughters Demitrius and Samantha, Malik ; Grandchildren: Ashley, Greggory (Tiana), Sir (Karizma), Leoditus , Abu,  Kayanna, Jabra, Dionne, Brittney, Bobby, Cache (Taneel), Jhalil, Kiera, Anthony, Unique, and Patience, Alvin, Anthony and Ajanae ; Greatgrandchildren: Dewayne, Kimara, Serenity, Karter, Harmony, Taneel, Leo, Avani, Major, Tai’zire, Melody, Aziah , Arreis/ Laila and Amethyst /Leilani,: Nephews Jason, Billy Dee, Khristoper, Kendall, Zanatrell, Justin, Derrick, Jerome, Mark and Jewuan;  Nieces Stephanie, Mariah, Kizzie and Alanita. Lifelong friends/Sisters Martha Jones, Carol Mitchell, Betty Gates and Teresa Holobaugh. A host of sisters, brothers, nieces, nephews, grandchildren and friends who were all loved abundantly. We are her LEGACY!
