JEROLD McDANIELS Obituary

Jerold Louis McDaniels was born July 1, 1952, in Columbus, Ohio and was the youngest of three sons born to James and Emma McDaniels.  Soon after he graduated from high school he joined the U.S. Marine Corp., where he served for five years.

In 1974, Jerold was united in marriage to Marilyn Humphrey, they were blessed with two beautiful children, Stephen and Erin.  He attended Bliss College and in 1978 earned an Associate degree in Senior Business Administration and a Bachelor of Science from Urbana University in 1980.

Jerold was a member of Southfield Baptist Church where he served faithfully under the leadership of the late Reverend Rufus Simpson and late Reverend Melvin Willis, as the church clerk and worked in the church pantry.  In 2002, he united with Christ Memorial Missionary Baptist Church, under the leadership of Dr. Shedrick L. Fowler and served on the Finance ministry and a leader with the Young Davids.

For sixteen years Jerold worked for the State of Ohio Department of Mental Health, where he served as an auditor.  In his spare time, he served as a Boy Scout leader, enjoyed deep sea fishing and was an avid painter.

Jerold was a survivor and a beacon of laughter.  He embraced the rain so he could experience the rainbow.  He was never too tired to lift others’ spirit with laughter, never too busy to devote a listening ear to another, and never too sick to live life and live it abundantly.  His spirit was free, friendship pure, and he unapologetically served God in spirit and in truth.

Jerold was preceded in death by his father, James W. McDaniels Sr.; mother, Emma Louise Fitzgerald; brothers James W. McDaniels Jr., and Norman McDaniels.  He leaves to cherish his life and celebrate his victory in Jesus Christ: his loving and devoted wife, Marilyn McDaniels; son, Stephen McDaniels of Columbus, Ohio; daughter, Erin (fiancé Myron Baccus) McDaniels of Pickerington, Ohio; future granddaughter, Lyla Baccus of Pickerington, Ohio; mother figure, Margaret McDaniel of Urbancrest, Ohio; brothers, Willie Fitzgerald, Jr. of Columbus, Ohio, Eric (Chauné) Fitzgerald of Richland, Washington and Bryan Fitzgerald of Columbus, Ohio; sisters, Lana (Curtis) Stitt of Pickerington, Ohio, Pamela (Will) Hammond, Frances (Keith) Smith, Valerie Watts and Ramona Fitzgerald, all of Columbus, Ohio; sister-in-law, Ophelia McDaniels of Port St. Lucie. Florida; a host of nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins; several dearly loved friends and the Christ Memorial Missionary Baptist Church Family.
