Elsie Lee Hill Anderson entered this world on April 11, 1938 and received her heavenly reward on Thursday, October 29, 2020. She was born the fifth child to the late George and Leanna Hill. A native of Charleston, WV Elsie was a distinguished graduate of the last graduating class of Garnet High School (1956). From their she matriculated to West Virginia State College (now West Virginia State University) where she received her Bachelor’s of Education Degree. For many years Elsie worked with Multi-Cap Head Start and OIC. One of her favorite rolls was working at West Virginia State in the Upward Bound Program. Upon her retirement, Elsie worked for the WV Department of Motor Vehicles, a job she truly enjoyed.
Elsie loved to crochet and to shop. She could often be seen at the Charleston Town Center enjoying the people in front of JC Penny. She met no strangers and always had a memorizing smile that could light any room. An active member of St. Paul African Methodist Episcopal Church, Elsie served as a Sunday School teacher and for many years served as the Sunday School Superintendent.
Elsie is preceded in death by her parents, George and Leanna Hill. Her sisters Truscilla Rebecca “Kitty” Berger, Mary Frances Parker, and brothers James Thomas Hill, George and Alfred Hill. Leaving to cherish her memory is her son, Judge Derek Hill Anderson (Rev. Dr. Aimee), grand children Cory I. Anderson and Kennedy B. Anderson. Sisters and Brothers Carolyn F. Russell of Atlanta Georgia, George W. Hill of Columbus, Eunice Hill-Hall of Columbus, Brenda A. Hardy of Charleston, WV; Leonard Hill (Judge Patricia) of Morgantown, WV; and Nina Hill Hairston of Columbus, Ohio.
She is also survived by several nieces,nephews and cousins including the Gaitor, Fisher,Russell, Redman, and Armistead families.
