BETTY JEAN REED

Betty Jean Reed was born September 16, 1940 and returned to the arms of Lord on November 22, 2021.  Betty was raised in Boomer, WV and graduated from Simmons High School.  As a young adult she moved to Chicago where she worked as a nurse’s aid.  However, she made her final home in Columbus, Ohio where she worked for Western Electric/Lucent Technologies retiring after nearly 40 years.   

She was also a proud member of Mt. Hermon Missionary Baptist church where over the years she volunteered in the church kitchen and as a church nurse.

Betty was the first of 18 children born to Queen Esther Brooks Mattox and Thomas Hugo Mattox who previously returned to glory.  She was preceded in death by sisters Dorothy Mattox, Francis Jones and Diane Martin and brothers Thomas Mattox Jr. and Luther Mattox.  Left to cherish Betty’s memory are sisters and brothers Pamela Madison, Qulonia (Thomas) Tyree, Rodney Mattox, Robert (Patricia) Mattox, Deborah Mattox, Kenneth Mattox, Vera (Jerrold) Brown, Cynthia (Clarence) Barnett, Calvin Mattox, Monica Mattox, Karen Mattox and Corey Mattox.  Betty was a loving sister and aunt who was always willing to help however she could.

She supported every family event and milestone from family reunions, to births of babies, marriages, baby blessings and graduations.  She will be greatly missed by over 100 nieces and nephews as well as her church family and friends.  We will all miss her homemade cooking and desserts.  Betty will be loved and cherished in our hearts forever.
