Alfreda D. Gist-Lane was born to the late Mr. William Gist and Mrs. Etta Mae Gist on November 14, 1938 in West Virginia. She attended Liberty High School in Williamson, West Virginia and received her Diploma in Liberal Arts. She also attended the Allen Schwartz Institute of Allied Health and Business and received her diploma for Phlebotomy on September 18th, 1992. She married the late Charles D. Lane and remained in New York City for her adult life. After retiring she moved to Columbus Ohio.
For more than 20 years Alfreda was a political activist, she donated her time to public officials such as Representative Major Robert Odell Owens of the 12th Congressional District of New York City for his initial election to take over the 12th Congressional District from the Honorable Shirley Chisum. For more than 50 years Alfreda enjoyed donating her time to local churches and community programs in the New York City and in Columbus, Ohio.
Alfreda was an entrepreneur at heart, she cooked, cut hair, made her own wine, and had a knack for interior design. She was blessed with two children whom she loved and provided for. She taught them the importance of serving God, having a good education, and creating a legacy that could be passed down to their children.
As the matriarch of her family, Alfreda provided love, wisdom, and support to her grandchildren and family members.

Her brother Carl Stanley Gist Sr., her daughter, Candace Marie Lane, son Kevin Alexander Lane, Sr., her six grandchildren: Tyshell M. Lane, Sharee M. Hereford, Tyleasha A. Lane, Kevin A. Lane, Jr., Shauna A. Hereford, and Alinnia T. Lane. Her great grandchildren: Tyrell Lane-Burgess, Kaniyah P. Lane, and Neveah B. Brown. She also leaves behind a host of family and friends.
